101 Reasons Christian Give For Not Going To Church

As a pastor over the years I have heard many people give me reasons why they can't come to church. As a pastor I see that often the motivation in the lives of other is anything other that putting Christ first. People are motivated by their own comfort, their own pleasure, by what they want in its variety of forms. Instead our motivation should be to love Christ, to learn what pleases Him, to join with the saints in fellowship. These things done out of a right motivation bring blessing. The wrong motivation - even if we DO attend church - only brings us bondage, or at best insulates us from God's best. So here is a work in progress of 101 reasons (or excuses) that Christians give for not attending church. I'm only halfway thorugh the list - so if you think of any to add to it, just add a comment or email me and let me know. 101 Excuses: 1. I slept in 2. We don’t have to go to church to be a Christian 3. We watch church on the TV 4. Didn’t feel like it today 5. I was sick 6. My dog vomited 7. My kids vomited 8. I had an argument with my wife 9. The car got a flat tyre 10. I don’t like who is rostered on to preach today 11. The music is too loud 12. The music is too soft 13. The preacher yells 14. All they talk about is money 15. There is no love in that church 16. My Great aunt Sylvia who we haven’t seen for 32 weeks popped in for a visit 17. It was my only chance to do the housework 18. The bills needed paying 19. I didn’t feel like going 20. Had to play sports 21. I don’t like Bill 22. The preacher is away this week, I’ll have a day off too 23. Just having a bye 24. The devil made me do it 25. I am too bad to go to church 26. If I step foot in church the building will collapse 27. God gave up on me a long time ago 28. You have no idea what I’ve done... god couldn’t love me 29. I’m a Satanist 30. I don’t believe in god 31. I lost my bible 32. I was rostered on to work 33. I needed to mow the lawn – you won’t believe how long the grass is getting. 34. God called me to stay home and pray 35. God asked me to hand out tracts today 36. I don’t like this week’s Sermon 37. I have no money for the offering 38. Someone in the church hurt my feelings 39. The pastor doesn’t care for me 40. I just really don’t feel like going today. 41. Last night I had a dream and I think the meaning is that I need to stop going for to church for a while. 42. Andrew stopped going to church – so I will too. 43. I’ve gone to church all my life, now I’m old enough to make my own mind up. 44. There’s no-one to talk to at church 45. The music is terrible 46. The coffee is terrible 47. There is no music 48. There is no coffee 49. The seats are so hard – it makes my bottom ache. 50. Our church is so traditional, it just doesn’t really appeal to me anymore. 51. I just really don’t feel up to it today. 52. The new pastor is so boring 53. The new pastor is so quiet you can hardly hear what he is saying 54. I don’t know any of those new fangled songs. 55. .... please help this list reach 101.
