April 25, 2005: Anzac Day:
Today is ANZAC Day in Australia and New Zealand. ANZAC stands for "Australian and New Zealand Army Corps and on April 25 every year, Aussies and Kiwis (New Zealanders) remember their soldiers who fought in World War I, especially the battle at Gallipoli. Anzac soldiers were amongst the bravest in "the Great War" and when I was 15 I did a school project on Gallipoli and ever since then have had a very deep respect for these men. They fought in a war that wasn't their war, because the war was an European affair. They gave their hearts, souls and often their very lives for a cause which Mother England dragged them into. Despite the war not being their concern, they fought and gave of themselves wholeheartedly as though it was their own issue. Many soldiers from other nations also did the same, including the Turkish men who fought against them at Gallipoli. We can learn a grand lesson from these men.......and in a similar way we can live for God and serve God's mission and cause as though it was our own.
