From Mexico To Mt Morgan - Swine Flu Has Arrived

The Swine Flu has arrived in Mt Morgan – we all thought that it would eventually arrive, but maybe not as quickly as it did. To me it seems that fear of the swine flu is worse than the swine flu itself. It’s like the old saying about some dogs – their bark is worse than their bite.

Fear is something that may not necessarily be based upon any facts. Someone once said that FEAR stands for “False Evidence Appearing Real.” Fear can also include being afraid of something that is real, but being so concerned about it that it begins to take on a greater significance or importance than it has in reality.

When we begin to be afraid of things our behaviour is modified and we begin to think less effectively as well as act in strange ways. Earlier this year at the Rockhampton Show attendance was way down because many people had “fear” of catching the Swine Flu – in reality it wasn’t a possibility. However, every other year people attend in large numbers even though the possibility of catching the regular flu is considerable.

I guess my point is that sometimes we worry before we think – we all do it. So take a moment and consider your worries in life. Why do we get so worried? Is there a genuine reason to be concerned or is it possible that things could be different to how we think they are. I’m sure that is the case.
