Man Eating Sharks - Or About To

A few weeks ago I went fishing with a friend at Port Alma in Central Queensland. Port Alma is a kind of estuary where the Fitzroy River enters the Pacific Ocean and it has deep channels and a variety of vessels come and go there.

Sharks at Port AlmaI haven't been fishing for many years and and was itching to feel a fish on the end of my line again.

I remembered how the Bible had a whole bunch of fish stories - in fact some of them are incredible where Jesus helped his disciples to catch overwhelming amounts of fish. I decided that if Jesus could help his disciples back then to catch a lot of fish - I could surely ask for just one. I decided to pray and believe for not just one little ordinary fish but for a substantial fish.

It wasn't long before I had a shark on the end of my line - very enjoyable. Then I decided to pray and believe for my friend to catch an even bigger fish - and soon he was reeling in a shark too, slightly larger than my own. I think God likes fishing.

Anyway so the point of all of this is to remind you that Jesus calls us all to be fishers of men. This means that we are to live lives of prayer and excellence in character and what we say, so that other people will want to be like us - to be like Jesus. We are the bait - and if we don't look good, people won't want Jesus.

To me - the gospel is so good, and Christ so great that I'm glad I got caught years ago. If I was a fish and the hook was dangling in front of me - this is one time I would want to be hauled into the boat. When people see your life and the kind of person you are becoming - they will want Christ too.

In the meanwhile - I have 16 shark steaks in the freezer at home. It will be yummy.
