Newsletter - Jan 14th 2010 - Step One

Dear Friends,

It's been many years since this newsletter has gone out - so it's a delight to write again. I plan to use this newsletter to encourage readers to be drawn closer to Christ.

On my shelf at home I have a book called "12 Steps for Christians" which is based upon the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous. Most people despise these groups because they know so little about them. If the truth was known, most people would admire these people and could learn a lot from them. There is sometimes more spirituality and genuine faith in these groups than in some chuches.

The first step of the twelve is - "We admitted we were powerless over the effects of our separation from God - that our lives has become unmanageable." - Step One is a recognition of our faults and that we need God's help. It is a recognition of our need for God. In essence it is humility.

What alcoholics do in their groups is in reality what we all need. We all need to find humility before God. We all need to find a fresh sense of our dependency on Him. This is our starting place to being whole and living the way we are meant to. This is our Step One.

If you haven't walked close with Christ in recent times, or if your faith has been weak, or if things in life have been hard and you have moved away from God - today is time for Step One.

Take a minute, pause and pray. Admit to yourself and to God today your need for Him. Ask Him to help you. If you did that - Well Done.

All the Best - Talk to You Soon
