Not 10 Commandments - Just One

How often we hear people talk about the 10 commandments. It's true!! I refer to them frequently in church or at times when sharing the gospel with people. It is particularly effective for proving to people that they are sinners - because nobody can claim to have kept the 10 commandments.

However Jesus did come to set us free from the Law - and the 10 Commandments are part of the Law right?

However Jesus did NOT come to set us free from service, love and obedience to Him. In fact He said that some people will be suprised when they stand before Christ because he will say "Away from me, you who practice Lawlessness." Lawlessness is someone who lives as though there is no law - in other words, they do whatever they want.

But hang on - hasn't the law been abolished - aren't we under grace.

Yes, but there is still one commandment left. Jesus said "A new commandment I give to you - Love one another as I have love you."

So yes we are free from the Official Law of the old Testament - it still has its uses in sharing the gospel with people - but now we are instead under another obligation. Our obligation now is to Christ - to serve, to follow, to obey and to do as He commanded - to Love.

So in summary - for those who have given Christ their hearts and devotion - there is now no longer 10 commandements - there is just one.
