Tourism Minister Hon Peter Lawlor Visits Us

Last Thursday, the Queensland Tourism Minister visited Mt Morgan to open the new section of the Dinosaur Caves.  Mt Morgan is blessed to have some large fireclay caverns made in the early 1900’s when they were mining the clay to make bricks for the smelters in the mine.  As the excavated they tunnelled under sandstone and many years later footprints were seen in the sandstone from the underneath.

It turns out that these footprints were from Dinosaurs and now a new staircase has been built, courtesy of the Queensland Government, to get tourists up and close (within a few feet) of these footprints.  The Tourism Minister – the Hon Peter Lawlor was present to officially open the new section.

Mt Morgan is a fabulous place to visit for a great deal many reasons, and the dinosaur caves are just one of the places to visit.  Mt Morgan is a very historical place and has contributed greatly to the national status of Australia, especially in its early years around 1900.  If you get the chance, come and see our Museum, our Mine, our Historic Railway (Steam Engine & Rack Engine) plus the Dinosaur Caves, Historic Grave Sites and a Wonderful church or two.

Thursday was a Great Day – Pics Below.
